Hi reader!…..,

Hope you are doing well.

Reflections and Resolutions

This week has been quite enlightening, offering me valuable insights into my current pursuits and the obstacles that have been holding me back in my daily activities. I’ve taken some time to introspect and identify the key factors that have been pulling me down and preventing me from reaching my full potential.

With a renewed sense of clarity, I am now actively working towards eliminating these barriers. My plan for the coming months is to establish a more disciplined routine that aligns with my long-term goals. This new approach will not only help me stay focused but also enhance my productivity and overall well-being.

I am committed to this journey of self-improvement and look forward to sharing my progress and the lessons I learn along the way. By tackling these challenges head-on, I aim to create a more balanced and fulfilling path toward achieving my aspirations.

Stay tuned as I embark on this transformative journey, striving for continuous growth and success.

Here are my breakdown activities over this week.

Uki

Hurray! We have nearly completed the in-person interviews for the Kilinochchi Uki students applying for the Full-Stack Web Development course as full-time participants. Fourteen students attended the interviews, and out of these, seven have access to higher education through state universities. In alignment with Uki’s values and mission, the other seven students who do not have access to higher education will definitely be selected for the course.

It’s worth noting that those who have been accepted into university have not had as much exposure to the IT world as we had anticipated. From grades 6-9, they lacked proper IT teachers and laboratories in their schools. Even when it came time for their Ordinary Level exams, many students were deterred from choosing IT as a subject due to fear of poor results, which led them to neglect the subject entirely. This has created significant challenges for them as they pursue higher education, such as university degrees.

I personally feel sorry for these students. The reason I’m sharing this here is that I know only those who truly care about my work will read my blog. If you’ve made it this far, kudos! Drop me a message on WhatsApp, and I can share many more stories like this from the Northern Province based on my experiences so far.

We did the interview things at Kilinochchi. Vithushan from Vavuniya is missed in this photo

Later in the week, on Thursday, I travelled to Vavuniya to participate in the interview process for the Vavuniya Uki students. Observing the students there, I noticed similarities to those in Jaffna.

From my perspective, Jaffna, as a district in Sri Lanka, possesses immense resources and a strong human force but continues to face significant challenges. These challenges can largely be attributed to the upbringing of the people, socio-economic issues, and prevailing social attitudes. As someone who hails from Jaffna, I understand these struggles firsthand.

The count for the weekend cohort at Uki Online sessions, I can see a lot of people are present for the sessions. Since this is my first ever class, this is what is usual. behaviour of students for all the online sessions.

Non Profit Contributions

I have not yet received a response from the TAJ team regarding the domain issue. I am hopeful that they will get back to me after their online paper conference event scheduled for August 3rd and 4th.

At Noolaham, I reflect on the journey from being an employee (2019-2021) to a volunteer (2021-May 2024), and now working part-time since June. My current role involves the migration of Noolaham sites, which I expect to complete in the next two months.

Given the specific compensation for my efforts, this work no longer counts as volunteerism. Due to time constraints, I will be stepping away from the team after this project. Though my journey from 2019 has been enriching and rewarding, it’s time to move on. Thank you for your support and collaboration.

Side Projects & Freelance

I couldn’t able to work on the blog side project. But I was able to complete the mobile app-related things. Should be able to get the updated version soon.

Exercise & Mental Health

The significant thing that I am missing every week is this one. I should focus again on these things by the next week. I hope for the best.

I enrolled for an online Sinhala class. Even though I was in Colombo for nearly 6 years, I was able to speak up to a level. I am hoping to enrich my speaking skills by participating in the next 3 months.

Meet-up with my schoolmates Saravanan & Shathursan

Each 3 of us is in a different domain, myself in IT, Shathu in Civil Engineering & Saravanan on the design side. We rarely see each other. Shathu followed their civil engineering degree at NIT Calicut, India, from 2021-2024. We rarely had the chance to meet, but this year, in May 2024, my & mom went to Kerala with him and had a nice time. Saravanan was one of my close friends in school. Later, we got into different universities, and we weren’t able to speak to each other much. But he is the one who called me and Shathu to meet for an ice cream at Rio. Revived some cool old memories. Thanks, boys… love you.

Meet-up with Dilanka at Jaffna

Dilanka is the CEO of my previous company, Velaris. He came from UK with his family to Jaffna. It was nice meeting with hime and catchup for a great conversation. I always admire & interested to have conversation on spiritual, political & career things.

And that’s all for the week.
