Monthly Notes 22/07/2024 – 20/08/2024
Spread the love

After a long time, it has been a pleasure and feeling more confident that I am still keeping that momentum to write a journal. And this time, I am going to change my Weekly Notes to Monthly Notes. Because I feel it’s too open to tell everything during the process. If I have to write in weekly I need to mention most of my ongoing things which I personally so awkward. So, I keep those ongoings in private & mention all my successes & failures in the Monthly notes. In this way, I can keep all the things up-to-date.

The last Weekly notes were until July 21, 20224. In this monthly note, I am going to share all things from one month’s 20th to next month’s 20th. In this way, it will keep my monthly plans a better one and to organise my things without any hassle.

So, without any further explanation, I would like to share this month’s notes with you all. Nothing fancy happened as usual, went to Kilinochchi Uki to have the orientation with both students & parents on July 28, 2024. During the orientation, I did the presentation and presented What, Why & the expectations of Uki from students were discussed and got the agreement signed. Most of the students were very enthusiastic & hard-working. They really have a cause to follow this course. I am so happy to make an impact on these students’ lives with my experience & my teaching passion. I am really happy that I am doing it for Kilinochchi students. They are the people who really need these types of programs & courses to uplift their skills and to get to more heights in their lives (This is my personal perspective).

On the previous day (July 27, 2024), I went to Kandy to attend an aptitude exam & an interview for the MSc degree at the University of Peradeniya. This was a sudden decision to go for Peradeniya.

I chose Peradeniya because of its beauty and my long-term wish to go and wander around the hill country side Sri Lanka. To experience the Kandiyan culture and the hill country coolness and breeze. I did both interview and aptitude exams very well. Looking forward to getting my results on that. For the interview & aptitude exam preparation, I asked a few people who already studied or studied the course. Only 2 of them replied with warm wishes and preparation things. Both of them were Sinhalese a brother and a sister. I am really thankful to them for guiding me on this.

On August 18, I got a confirmation email from the assistant registrar that I had selected to follow the MSc. It was one of my achievements this year so far, which was actually not planned. Looking forward to following the degree and achieving the MSc.

During August 01-04, Yarl IT Hub’s Yarl Geek Challenge Innovation Festival 2024 happened at Jaffna Cultural Centre. It was an interesting event to take a look at the different and innovative ideas from both school students & senior students who were from universities and Uki. That was totally a good experience.

On August 06, I did a session on Javascript Essentials for Computer Science students of Jaffna University. It was an engaging & one of my beginning sessions. Here is the LinkedIn post I shared about the session.

Later week on August 07, Uki Kilinochchi Cohort 6 was started with 7 students. 2 new students came from Mullaitivu. We started with pseudocode & flowchart.

Relocation to Kilinochchi

I moved to Kilinochchi on the 06th of August (the day before Uki started). The house rent was 20k excluding water & electricity bills. The owner is very strict on the agreement date. I signed the agreement on August 05, but was dated to August 01. The house looks good for the rent, but the owner has not cleaned the house and handed it over. I could see a few ants around the wall and I had to mop & clean the whole area. The house consists of 2 rooms, a hall, kitchen & washroom (with toilet) and another Indian toilet style. For the sake of having a good place to be safe from the mosquitos and bad weather, I chose to be here. Let’s see how long it goes.

Finally brought all the necessary things to Kilinochch’s rented house including my workstation & gas cylinders.

Non-Profit Commitments

From Non-Profit commitments, I had to leave from Noolaham Foundation’s commitments within the next 2-3 months. I have to allocate a few more hours to a few personal commitments. Sometimes, it’s a bit hard to make some decisions but still, it is worth it.

Another one is the Tamil Academic Journal. So far, the paper submission portal has been created only the sub-domain pointing is missing. Hopefully will do it by next month. On August 03rd & 04th a paper conference was organised by TAJ. However, I was not able to attend it due to my time allocation for the YGC festival.

The startup mobile app was fixed with a lot of bugs & now it’s smoothly working. But there are a few changes to be done in the UI & backend logic. Hopefully to finish it soon.

Did a session at Tamizharitham Online Zom meet on Tamil Fonts, Unicode usage & the risks of converting it to Unicode? Lots of questions. were raised and almost it was a good learning for me too. Thanks to Shtinivasan Anna from Kaniyam for joining the session and answering the questions.

My new hobby along with my friends started

My friend from my advanced level time, Dajeev contacted me to ask me whether I am available to do online classes for students who are entering into the Engineering field newly with the web development course. He has gathered a group of people to teach different engineering aspects like mobile app development, machine learning & so on. The main intention of this initiative is to provide a basic understanding of engineering aspects and things to students who are just after their advanced level. Through this course they could enhance their skills even before going to university, This opportunity will allow them to unlock various things and to explore more during their undergraduate academic course at an affordable amount. Personally, I feel joining this team to work on these kinds of things will keep me more busy and goal-oriented. I would like to thank my friend Seyon for telling my name to Dajeev to contact me for web development-related things. I did one of the free sessions on installing WordPress to make students feel encouraged that they can able to build a site in less than an hour. It went well. Looking forward to more sessions with students.

That’s all for the whole month so far. And yes, I have got a constipation issue and taking medication for that. Constipation caused anal fissures and sometimes it pains a lot when going to the toilet. I think it’s time for me to be more on my self-care. Constipation had made me suffer a lot in the last month.

Kleen Enema which I took to solve the very initial constipation issue
